I want an automatic from the start
You have already decided that you want to drive an automatic car and you want your training to be built around it from day one.

Automatic — category B
Want to learn to drive directly in an automatic car? You can train and take your practical test in an automatic, with the aim of real independence on the road, not just a licence in your pocket.

Who it is for
There is no single right answer. See whether you recognise your own situation.
You have already decided that you want to drive an automatic car and you want your training to be built around it from day one.
There is already an automatic car in the family, or you plan to buy one, and you want to be trained on the way of driving you will actually use.
You started in a manual car, but clutch control and gear changes are holding your progress back. An automatic can be a different way to train.
If you have already begun your training at another school but struggle with the manual car, contact us so we can look at your own case.
What changes
An automatic does not mean you do not have to learn to drive.
Without a clutch and manual gear changes you can concentrate more on traffic, on observation and on the decisions that real driving demands.
The process
The administrative steps are those of category B. Here is what changes when you choose an automatic.
The administrative procedure for category B follows the stages laid down for a driving licence in Greece.
For a first licence, the required theory training is completed as normal.
Your practical training takes place in the school's automatic training car.
The practical examination is taken in an automatic vehicle.
Important
If the practical test is taken in a vehicle without a clutch pedal, the corresponding restriction is recorded on your driving licence and your category B entitlement covers the vehicles falling under it.
Code 78 — a restriction to vehicles without a clutch pedal.
Yes. If you later want the automatic restriction lifted, there is an established procedure so that you also gain the entitlement to drive a manual vehicle.
If you already hold a licence with code 78 and want to drive a manual car, ask us and we will explain what applies in your case.
Government fees
These state fees are issued electronically through e-Paravolo, the Greek government's online fee system. We can issue them for you and send you the RF payment codes.

These amounts are the government fees (κρατικά παράβολα) set by the Greek state for the procedure and the examinations. They are not the total cost of getting your licence: the driving school's fee and the doctors' fees are not included. The fees are the same whether you train in a manual or an automatic car.
Examination fees apply to each scheduled examination. If you need to retake an examination, a new examination fee is required, together with the corresponding driving school fee.
The training
Driving position, seat, mirrors, seatbelt, controls and the basic checks on the car.
Steering, correct use of the accelerator and brake, smooth moving off and stopping.
Mirrors, junctions, pedestrians, obstacles and where to look.
A gradual move from quiet conditions to bigger roads and more demanding traffic environments.
Parking, reversing, reverse cornering, hill starts and narrow streets.
The aim is that you can gradually make safe decisions without constant guidance.
The gearbox is automatic. The decisions stay yours.
Not sure yet
You do not have to choose based on what most people do. The right choice depends on what you want to drive, on your needs and on how you feel most comfortable learning.
You want the entitlement to drive both manual and automatic cars, without the automatic restriction.
You intend to drive an automatic, or you want to focus on traffic without managing a clutch and manual gear changes.
Where the lessons take place
Stavroulakis Driving School has its own automatic training car for practical training and for the category B practical test.
Training starts from your own level and develops in real traffic in Agios Dimitrios and across different areas and main roads of the southern suburbs, depending on the aim of each lesson.
We work with candidates from across Attica. For car lessons, by arrangement, the lesson can start and finish at Agios Dimitrios, Alimos or Dafni metro stations.
These areas are not fixed or guaranteed routes. They are examples of where training actually takes place.
If Greek is not your first language, the procedure is often harder than the driving itself. We explain each stage in English — the application on gov.gr, the MyPhoto photo and signature, the e-Paravolo government fees and the Training and Examination Card (Δελτίο Εκπαίδευσης Εξέτασης — Δ.Ε.Ε.) that allows official training to begin.
Our office is in Agios Dimitrios and we work with candidates living across the southern suburbs of Athens and the wider Attica region.
