What can I ride with an A1 licence?
Category A1 covers motorcycles with a maximum engine size of 125cc, a maximum power of 11 kW and a power-to-weight ratio of up to 0.1 kW/kg, in line with the specifications laid down for the category.
In everyday language A1 is described as “the 125 licence”. What matters, though, is whether the specific vehicle meets all of the category's specifications.

Requirements
Who can obtain A1?
From age 18
Category A1 can be obtained once you have reached the age of 18, provided the conditions laid down are met.
A1 or code 121?
A1 is a normal licence category with no national geographical restriction. Code 121 is a national code added to category B, under specific conditions, which allows you to ride A1 vehicles within Greece only. Code 121 is not the same thing as obtaining a normal A1 licence.

Practical training
Practical training for A1
Category A1 requires practical training on the school's own A1 motorcycles. It starts on the dedicated training area with machine control and the required manoeuvres and, depending on the stage, continues in real traffic conditions.

Manual or automatic?
Manual motorcycle
You learn full control of the clutch and the gears. It takes a little more practice at the start, but it leaves every type of motorcycle open to you.
Automatic motorcycle
No clutch and no gear changes — simpler to learn and convenient for everyday city riding on a scooter.
Note on code 78
If you take the practical examination on an automatic motorcycle, that category on your licence carries code 78 and is valid only for vehicles without a clutch. If you take the examination on a motorcycle with a clutch, the category carries no such restriction.
Code 78 is a transmission restriction on that specific category and is not a legal condition for extending to a higher category. If you want to get used to operating a clutch now, for riding motorcycles with manual transmission later, training with a clutch may be the better choice.

We explain every stage of the A1 procedure in English — the gov.gr application, the MyPhoto photo and signature, the e-Paravolo government fees and the Δ.Ε.Ε. You have two options: either a normal extension of your licence to category A1, or — provided the conditions are met — looking at the case of code 121.

The Medical PIN is issued through the digital driving licence procedure and is used by the doctors to register their medical certificates electronically. Once the online application is complete and the PIN has been issued, you can visit a pathologist and an ophthalmologist.
